It was 2005 or 2006.  My paranoia level in life was high.  You don't need to do drugs to be paranoid!  This was the George W Bush era, and the central governmemt was cracking down on dissidents.  You didn't have to be paranoid of the government, though many people were!  And rightfully so!  Technology was changing, and it was changing faster than I was comfortable with!  Dane Cook was the host of SNL and that's when I first heard about YouTube.

"If you've ever done anything in life, it's on YouTube!"  He said something along those lines, and I took him literally.

I had sung a couple of solos when I was in grade school.  The crowd was about 200 people in a local high school gymnasium.  People filmed me with Betamax cameras, or whatever was out at the time.  I figured I must be on YouTube!  Somebody must've put me there!  I didn't know how it worked, so I looked.

I played acoustic guitar back then, and I had recorded many private CDs.  Mostly, I gave these to friends.  I was a fan of acoustic live music, though, and the very first search I did on YouTube was key word search:

God knows what the algorithm was back then.  It could have been crap, and I would've had a bad feel for YouTube.  Instead, it gave me this chick.  Ria Ritchie singing Because of You.  She seemed homely, which was good, but she also had talent and heart.  She came across as someone I'd see in my neighborhood.  Nothing fancy, but someone worth sharing.  I think about her all these years later.  I started my first YouTube channel in August of 2008, and I'd be lying if I said she wasn't an inspiration ...
